Hi!
Welcome to Solata Tek (where great things happen)!
Welcome to Solata Tek (where great things happen)!
This blog is organized and handled by Sachin Gandhi and
Rishiraj Mathur, currently wasting their time at Drexel University,
Philadelphia, PA. Sachin Gandhi is a Biomedical Engineering sophomore and Rishiraj Mathur is a Mechanical Engineering one.
Solata Tek, is
basically a duo that started at Benjamin’s Desk in Philly. At an impactathon
organized by Ycenter, our first product was born. Combining inspiration from
many things ranging from Africa, the energy crises and my Candy Crush addiction,
we thought of and created a simple kit in 48 hours, that could charge your
phone. For this simple gadget we were awarded the second prize. This eventually
made us decide towards taking our model and pushing it to unthinkable limits.
That one weekend was probably the most fun I had in a long
time. I realized that, in college, satiating an engineer’s thirst for
scientific knowledge cannot be successfully achieved by the mundane curriculum
or the dormant clubs and organizations on campus. Our minds need something
more.
Ycenter provided us with the perfect opportunity and within
48 hours, Sachin Gandhi and I were able to design a low cost cell phone charger
that was powered by the Sun.
For us, the sky is the limit (pun intended). We believe that
our thoughts, ideas and notions are all pure gold. Because of which, we believe
we can make a change. And if we can make a change, believe me, anybody can make
a change. All we have to do is ‘do’.
Solata is an amalgamation of two
different Portuguese words; 'Sol' meaning Sun and 'Lata' meaning Can. Being of
Indian origins, we figured we can afford to go ahead with that. Our product's simplicity
is in its design. A can is used as the basic support and structure. Hence, the
name. We could have made it a little more convoluted but that is just
not our slant.
